CHRISTIAN LIVING DEBATES (Due Dates TBD)

For each of the following subjects, we will first debate the specific question on the floor (always seeking at least one person to represent the Christian worldview). After the debate has happened the class will discuss the matter further and Mr. Hansen will provide instruction as needed. There will not always be a clear Christian position on one side of a debate or the other, but ALL students will be required to maintain respect and courtesy toward ALL other students at ALL times. Mr. Hansen will also attempt to share audio and video clips which are relevant and helpful. We will attempt to cover as many of the following as possible:

Social/Political:

  • Which model of Government is ideal from a Christian worldview?
  • Monarchy, Republic, Democracy, Communism, Socialism, Dictatorship
  • Is there a scenario when Abortion is ok?*
  • Should Christians support Gender Self-Identification?
  • Should Christians support Open or Closed Borders?
  • Should Christians support the current Welfare system?
  • When should a Christian give toward Homelessness/Poverty
  • What Gun Rights position best represents Christianity/Scripture?
  • Should Christians be Pacifists?
  • Should Christians favor a big or small Government?
  • Should a church endorse a specific candidate, policy or measure?

Church Matters:

  • Should a Church take Ethnicity into consideration when Hiring Staff?
  • Should Pastors be Paid? (or: based on what? Merritt or Need)
  • How Educated should a Pastor have to be?
  • Is Attending Church on Sunday’s a Command?
  • Is the Para-Church more of a Friend or Foe to the Local Church?
  • Should churches focus more on local missions or foreign missions? (Pick 1)

Family & Romance:

  • Should Christians Date Non-Christians?
  • Should you Date w/o the Intention of Marriage?
  • Should Christians Circumcise their Sons?
  • Should Christians own luxury cars?

Personal Morality

  • Do we need to obey the Levitical Law?
  • Can Christians get Tattoos?
  • Can Christians Smoke anything? Cigars, Cigarettes, Hookah, etc.
  • Can Christians Drink Alcohol (at all)? (this one’s not about being drunk)

Note to Parents: I'm sorry that I haven't updated the blog in quite some time.  My two week absence threw me off a bit and I am still learning this whole communication aspect of my role.  I thank you very much for your patience!  Here is an update regarding your child's studies.

For the week of 10/01/18

Memory Verses - This week we began doing memory verses a different way.  They will now take their memory verse quizes at home.  They may attempt them as many times as you want.  I ask that you please grade the quiz by deducting one point for any word that they add or subtract from the actual verse.  They may use whatever translation that you are comfortable with, however, the school encourages the following: NASB, KJV & NKJV.  I personally tend to use the ESV the most.  Once you have checked their work, please sign the paper to indicate that a parent/guardian has ensured they didn't cheat or anything.

Memory Verse Due October 1st - Canceled (due to my own miscommunication)

Memory Verse Due October 8th - None.  I am giving them a week off of memory verses.

Don't Waste Your Life (Study Guide) - Students have Lesson 1 of their workbooks due 10/04/18.  This lesson will be discussed in class on that day.

Don't Waste Your Life (Reading) - Chapter 1 Due 10/11/18.

Grades - Some of you have looked on PowerSchool to check your student's grade.  To be honest, I didn't even know this was an option for parents, but I don't currently recommend it.  The grades in PowerSchool are accurate for individual assignments, but not for the overall grade.  I have to figure out how PowerSchool is doing the calculation and get it corrected.  Thank you for your patience in this.  If you have questions about your student's performance at school, please feel free to email me at khansen@victorycs.org.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - I hope to meet and talk with you all on October 18 & 19!

Thanks!

Mr. Hansen
